Nadine Henry Obituary

Nadine Henry died peacefully, at home, in the farmhouse in which she and husband Jim had lived for over 65 years. Other than her college years, Nadine lived her entire 95 years of life on the hill in southeast Longmont, either on the Henry Farm or on adjacent Hartshorn Farm. She was born November 24, 1919 to Q. Denzel and Mildred Mahan Hartshorn. The oldest of 4 daughters, she was a third generation Coloradoan who embodied the spirit of the west - independent, hard-working, and responsible. She married James L. Henry on May 28, 1941 following their graduation from Colorado A & M. Her passions in life included Jim and their family, her friends and community, agriculture, and her Alma Mater, Colorado State University. Nadine was devoted to her family. She often expressed her love through food and service. Nadine was a fabulous cook who thrilled friends with her famous prime rib roast, scalloped potatoes, candies, and cookies. Never seeking attention or thanks, Nadine was greatly supportive. She would happily deliver milk and cookies to Jim and the field crew. She'd provide clean, perfectly pressed jeans and shirts for Jim, their children, or grandchildren to wear while showing livestock at the National Western Stock Show or the county fair. She would cheer her kids or grandkids on in all endeavors, athletic, academic or otherwise. Even when she could no longer attend events, she took an active interest in everyone's lives. Nadine loved spending time with her friends; Bridge Club, Ram Club, and Supper Club were among her favorites. She was involved with First Congregational Church of Longmont, Sunshine Club, PEO, HEO, and Kappa Alpha Theta. Agriculture was not just her livelihood, it was Nadine's passion. She could drive a tractor, herd sheep, or work the fields. An accomplished equestrian, she was known for her style and ease on a horse. Whether driving a team or riding, she had a soft, but strong hand. Nadine successfully transferred this skill into all parts of her life. Ultimate Aggie and Ram fans, Nadine and Jim were named the CSU Alumni of the Century for their service to the university in 2000. They loved their university, and showed their pride with the construction of "The Ram Room" in the basement of their home; it was the site of many gatherings. Nadine's greatest legacy she left behind was her belief in the power of positive thinking; she lived and preached it daily. Unfailingly loving, but also "tough as nails," Nadine was a blessing to all. As one grandson stated, at her passing, "She was the best; she had a great run." Please join the family in celebrating Nadine's life on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 1:30 pm at United Church of Christ - Longmont. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made (in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel) to Colorado State University Foundation for the Jim & Nadine Henry Food Science & Human Nutrition Scholarship or TRU Hospice Care. The family sincerely thanks all of Nadine's caregivers and TRU Hospice! Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to share condolences.

Aaahhhhh....momma Nadine and Papa Jim - my other set of parents that I could always depend on! They knew my lineage, my love for CSU, my love for ranching, my love for music and family. I always knew even if I sang the anthem or alma mater poorly, they would love it because both songs spoke to our devotion to country and institution. I miss you Nadine and I know you're having great times with Jim. Thank you for your love. Mo

Oh, my heart is SO heavy, yet glad she and Jim are finally together, again, at long last. I was just asking after her at a recent Chapter M gathering. Shucks...gals like wonderful Nadine are few. I'm happy for her now that she had crossed over. I send my regrets because my husband and I are in Iowa and will miss the service for Nadine. My big hugs go out to all the family. Live forever, Mo (Maureen Boddicker)
