Robert Kane Obituary

Robert "Bob" Kane died Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at his home in Longmont. He was 74 years old. He was born April 13, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY to Phillip and Anna Mae (Goodman) Kane. Bob enlisted in the US Army in October 1955, and served in the Airborne Infantry, including two tours of duty in Viet Nam, and was honorably discharged in 1966. In February of 1967 he joined the US Navy. He spent most of his 20 year career in the Navy as a chef. Bob retired on Oct. 31, 1981. On April 8, 1967 he married Margaret R. Jorda. They lived in many places during his Naval career, moved to Boulder in 1981, and to Longmont in 1983. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Disabled American Veterans, Purple Heart Association, American Legion Post 32 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2601. Bob enjoyed motorcycle riding, playing Texas Hold'em, going to the gun range and shooting, getting together twice a week for coffee with other Vets and telling war stories and woodworking. His main priority in life was his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters. Bob is survived by his wife Marge, three children Lauri Kane, Bobby Kane (Dawn) and Suzee Limmer-Kirk (Anthony Kirk), six grandchildren Jarad, Garrett, Rylee, Lexus, Dillon and Landen and one sister, Ann Marino. Visitation, with family present to greet friends will be 5:00 to 7:00pm Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. A Vigil/Rosary will begin at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00pm Saturday, Jan. 11 at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church. Cremation will follow at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Inurnment will be at 11:15am Jan. 17, 2014 at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Disabled American Veterans or Diabetes Association can be sent in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. I encounered Bob through the years as a Longmont resident and he always brought a smile to my face. I still have a wonderful shirt he gave me for the Purple Heart ride several years ago. My thoughts are with his family and he will be greatly missed.
