Frances Jones Mulkey McGill, 89, of Ellijay, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025, at her residence.
She was born June 24, 1936, in Ellijay to Floyd Jones and Bertha Watkins Jones. She was a woman of many talents and passions, known especially for her love of flowers and her exceptional skill in quilting, a craft she perfected over the years and generously shared with others.
She also found great joy in gardening. One of her favorite pastimes was riding motorcycles alongside her husband, Fred, sharing many adventures together on the open road.
Her life was deeply rooted in faith, and she attended First Baptist Church of Chatsworth and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Ellijay, where she found strength, community and purpose.
She will be remembered for her warmth, creativity and the love she showed to all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by previous husband, Love Joseph Mulkey; daughter, Kathy Mulkey; and siblings, Willis Floyd Jones, William Everett Eldon Morgan, Prescott Estes, Roy Freeman, Venis Irene, Mary Lois, Minnie Lee, Bertha Mae, Bobby Carter and Bertha Manning.
She is survived by husband of 38 years, Fred McGill, of Ellijay; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Cheryl Mulkey of Ellijay; stepchildren, Ron McGill of Broken Arrow, Okla., Shawn McGill, of Dalton, Tracy McGill of Fishers, Ind., Stacy McGill of Woodsborro, Md., and Kimberly Infante of Baytown, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lowell and Imojean Jones, of Ellijay and Max and Shirley Jones, of Jasper; grandchildren, Tyrel and Brook Buttrum and Myles and Amber Mulkey; great-grandchildren, Braydon Buttrum, Kayden Buttrum and Evelyn Mulkey; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Stover officiating.
Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Ellijay.
Pallbearers include Larry Mulkey, Steve Tinker, Tyrel Buttrum, Braydon Buttrum, Myles Mulkey and James McCarthy.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family respectfully asks that no food be brought to the funeral home and requests no house plants.
Cemetery flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations can be made to the
American Cancer Society, in memory of Mrs. Frances Jones Mulkey McGill.
