Steven Shackelford Obituary
Mr. Steven Donovan Shackelford, 78, of Ellijay, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 2, 1945, in High Point, N.C. to the late James Posey Shackelford and Irene (Younts) Smith.
He graduated from Allen Jay High School in 1964. Shortly after, he started his first career at IBM in Atlanta. He left IBM to join the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany as first lieutenant.
After leaving the Army, he returned to work at IBM and remained there until he left to build his own business, Copyrite Copier Service in 1987. After many successful years with Copyrite, he retired to Ellijay.
A true mountain man with a passion for American history and a good debate, Steve, or Pepaw as his grandkids affectionately called him, found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from trout fishing and sitting by a campfire to building anything he set his mind to. He was an aviation enthusiast who loved to fly, explore the natural wonders of the countryside and ride his motorcycle for what he affectionately called "a little wind therapy." He will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends.
He is survived by son, Donovan Shackelford (Kimberly); grandchildren, Molly Shackelford and Matthew Shackelford; his sweetheart, Jean Smith; his brother, Jerry Smith; his niece, Rhonda Auman; and many other beloved family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by mother, Irene (Younts) Smith; stepfather, E.W. Smith; sister, Carlene (Shackelford) Robbins; and brother, James (Jimmy) Shackelford.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday June 14, 2024, at the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with military rites by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Logan Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tunnel to Towers at www.T2T.org in memory of Steve.
