Freddie Pickney Obituary

Freddie James Pickney Jr., born Sept. 26, 1942, in St. Louis, passed away peacefully, Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025.

He was the beloved son of Freddie James Pickney Sr. and Dorothy Pickney South, who preceded him in death. Freddie graduated from Black Rock High School in 1961 and served his country honorably in the United States Navy. Following his service, he pursued higher education at Southern Baptist College, graduating in 1980. Freddie built a successful career with IBM, where he worked until his retirement.

On Nov. 13, 1964, Freddie married Nancy Woodson, with whom he shared many cherished years until her passing. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Freddie is survived by his two sons, Dean Pickney and Scott Pickney; and two grandsons, Jaxon Pickney and Josh Leonard, who brought him great joy; and many other relatives and friends.

Freddie's life was marked by dedication to his family, friends and work. Those who knew him will treasure his memory. May his legacy bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 16, from 5-7 p.m. in the Bryan Funeral Home Chapel in Hoxie. Interment of his cremains will be at a later date in the Oak Forrest Cemetery in Black Rock.
