Allan McAlpin Heyward was born on April 16, 1950, in Philadelphia, Pa. He passed on October 12, 2025, after a short illness. Allan married on September 10, 1975. He is survived by his wife, Laura (Lolly); daughter, Georgia and son-in-law, John and Georgia's daughter, Alexandra, of Richmond; daughter, Isabelle and her partner Kyle, of Seattle; son, Tom and daughter-in-law, Kalikolehua, and children, Noah, Grace, Marie, and Daniel, all of Richmond; son, Daniel, of Richmond and Manassas; and assorted sailboats and cats. Allan graduated from the Salisbury School, in Connecticut, in 1968. He received his bachelor's of arts in Asian affairs from the University of Virginia in 1974. He graduated from the University of San Francisco College of Law in 1978. Allan practiced law in Richmond from 1978 to 2023 with the firms Harris, Tuck, and Freasier; Sands, Anderson, Marks & Miller; and Cook, Heyward, Lee, Hopper & Feehan.
