Anne Gottwald Obituary

Mrs. Anne Cobb Gottwald, 102, of Richmond, died Monday, December 15, 2003. Mrs. Gottwald was the widow of Floyd Dewey Gottwald, former chairman of Ethyl Corporation, who died in 1982. Mrs. Gottwald, the former Anne Ruth Cobb, was born in Richmond on May 31, 1901. She was the daughter of David A. Cobb and Floyd Agnes Dowdy. She and Mr. Gottwald were married in 1919. Mrs. Gottwald served as organist and choir director of the Fulton Baptist Church and church activities continued to be a major interest throughout her life. For more than 30 years, Mrs. Gottwald served as organist at Montrose Baptist Church. She and Mr. Gottwald later became members of First Baptist Church. Mrs Gottwald was a former member of the Board of Instructive Visiting Nurses Association and the Sunshine Circle of Children's Hospital. She also was a member of the Woman's Club, the Tuckahoe Woman's Club, and the Country Club of Virginia. Mrs. Gottwald is survived by two sons, Floyd D. Gottwald Jr. and Bruce C. Gottwald, both of Richmond, as well as six grandsons and 23 great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Homes' Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue, where the family will receive friends Wednesday, December 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral will be held Thursday, December 18, 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Interment in Hollywood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 2709 Monument Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23220 or I.V.N.A - Instructive Visiting Nurse Association, 5008 Monument Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23220.
