Arlene Harlow "Shorty" Peebles

Arlene Peebles Obituary

Arlene Harlow "Shorty" Peebles of Charlottesville, Va. passed away on Monday, March 15, 2004 after a short battle with cancer. Born March 21, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Bernice E. Harlow and Lula R. Johnson Harlow and was also preceded in death by her sister, Pearl Sandy Peebles of Charlottesville and her daughter, Brenda H. Wilkerson of Burkeville, Va. Shorty was a member of First Baptist Church of Charlottesville and a member of the Detamore Class. She was a former employee of J.D. Wiley's, a long time employee of Miller and Rhoads, Crestar Bank, and First Federal Savings and Loan in Charlottesville. Surviving her are two sons, William D. "Billy" Peebles Jr. and his wife, Edna, of Troy, Va., and Robert A. "Bobby" Peebles and his wife, Linda of Mechanicsville, Va.; four granddaughters, Trudy L. Peebles of Charlottesville, Dana R. Peebles of Luray, Va., Suzanne Peebles Trimble and her husband, Chris of Richmond, and Elizabeth H. Peebles of Richmond; one great-grandson, Justin R. Trimble; and many other family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2004 at Hill and Wood Funeral Home, with Dr. Joel P. Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Final disposition will be private. The family suggests that any desired memorials be in the form of contributions to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Charlottesville, Va. 22911.
