Arnold Lowenstein Obituary

LOWENSTEIN, Arnold Benjamin, 84, of Richmond, Va., died December 25, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; their children, Amy Buckberg and her husband, Paul, David Lowenstein and his wife, Rebekah; and four very loved grandchildren, Michael and Millie Buckberg and Zachary and Naomi Lowenstein. Arnold was a retail merchant by trade, Owner of H. Lowenstein & Son in downtown Richmond. He proudly served on the Richmond Crime Commission for many years, initiating many safety protocols for downtown Richmond. He also served on the Board of Retail Merchants, working on many important initiatives, including opposing the 1980s era Street Scape project. He was very active in Temple Beth-El and served as its President for two terms. He stayed active on the Board until very recently. He was also involved in Fraternal Lodge #53 for over 50 years and more recently in Richmond Washington Royal Arch #3-9. Besides the love of his trade, he loved to travel and enjoyed planning trips for anyone who sought his advice. He had a sense of humor all his own that kept people shaking their heads. Burial will be private due to COVID-19 but will be live-streamed Sunday, December 27, 12:30 p.m. at Blileys.com. Dear Barbara,
I only just saw this notice about Arnold and belatedly wish to convey my deepest sympathy on your loss. Mr. Lowenstein was such a kind, knowledgeable and funny man. I always enjoyed my visits to your shop and the wonderful stories he told (with that sparkle in his eye) from early years in downtown Richmond, his travels, and of course his vast knowledge of minerals, gems and the jewelry business. Both of you always made me feel so welcome whether or not I was able to buy at the time. I hope you are well and wish all good health, enjoyment, and happy memories to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Kate Rosemond

Rick has known Arnold since his early days downtown. I bought an add-a-pearl necklace for our wedding anniversary, which is now 41 years old...and growing. Thank you Arnold and Barbara for your continual service, and more importantly, continual friendship. REST IN PEACE my friend.

Barbara, sorry to hear of
Arnold's passing. Pat and I always enjoyed our visits to the downtown store. We enjoyed sharing, talking about our trips to Maine and know how much Arnold love Ogunquit. My favorite was when Arnold told Pat her Cape May diamonds were 100% acrylic . Stay strong and know I am thinking of you.

Barbara: Please accept our very deep sympathy at your loss. While I only knew Arnold slightly, I found him to be so warm and charming, I was stuck by his very kind eyes and wonderful humor. I know you will miss him deeply, and while you have many friends who will help support you, please know that David and I would be happy to help you with anything to help ease your pain. Thoughtfully, Sharon and David
