Joan Lowenstein Obituary
Joan Elizabeth (Eckert) Lowenstein, 92 of Atlanta, GA passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025.
She was born Joan Elizabeth Eckert on November 29, 1933 to Mr. Anthony W. Eckert, former Army Lieutenant Colonel, NJ hospital administrator and past president of the American Hospital Association & NJ State Hospital Association & Nym (McCullough/Adair) Eckert of Atlanta, GA.
Joan was born in Asbury Park, NJ and was raised in Spring Lake, NJ where she later married her husband of 36 years, Dr. Alan Edward Lowenstein, DDS before his untimely death in 1990.
Joan graduated from Lasell College in Auburndale, MA and in business administration & worked as an executive secretary for the Royal Liverpool Insurance Group in Asbury Park, NJ. Joan also worked as business administrator for her husband’s dental practice on Tindall Rd., Middletown, NJ while they raised three children, Bambi, Glenn & Dale Lowenstein of Hartshorne Rd. in Locust, NJ. Joan was active in Monmouth County society, her children’s sports activities & as a charter member of Navesink Country Club. Joan moved from Monmouth County to Vero Beach, FL (where her parents had retired) with her beloved husband Dr. Alan (Doc) Lowenstein in 1986. Joan was adored by family, friends, and the community, known for her great warmth, style, sense of humor, fashion, design, gift-giving, needlepoint, socializing & Bridge gatherings. She was forever youthful & hip with her great taste in music, culture, arts & entertainment and shared that spirit also with her adoring four grandchildren. It was befitting for Joan to return to Atlanta recently to be near her two loving sons and their families. Joan will be remembered by all her family members and friends from Monmouth County, NJ, Vero Beach, FL & Atlanta, GA.
Joan is survived by her children, Bambi A Lowenstein of Vero Beach, FL and her two sons, Glenn P Lowenstein and Dale R Lowenstein of Atlanta, GA; as well as her four grandchildren, Christian, Rudy, Alaina & Margaret and two great-grandchildren, Henry & Sadie Lowenstein of Atlanta, GA.
Joan’s favorite quote was from the John Keats poem Endymion often sharing the words, “A thing of beauty is a joy forever”. Joan embodied that essence of beauty, grace, love & laughter.
A private memorial service will be held by family at a later date in Vero Beach, FL & Atlanta, GA.
