Audrey Williams Obituary
WILLIAMS, Audrey Gentry "Bunny", of Richmond, Va., passed away suddenly on January 17, 2022.
Bunny was born in Richmond April 13, 1954 to Walter Bennett and Patricia Nunnally Gentry. After graduating from The Collegiate Schools in 1972, she went on to study Political Science at Hollins College. It was in Virginia that Bunny met her then husband, Ernest Sanford "Ford" Williams. After they married, they moved to Jacksonville, Fla., where son, Christopher "Gentry" Williams, was born. Nine years later, Bunny was blessed with a daughter, Mary Sanford "Mary Ford" Williams. In 1992, she moved to Tuscaloosa, Ala., where she resided for 20 years before returning to Richmond.
Bunny was an active member of The Junior League in Tuscaloosa and Richmond, the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, Daughters of the Confederacy and the Blue Stocking Society. In Tuscaloosa, she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. She loved being involved in Mardi Gras clubs and served as both President and Queen over the years. In Richmond, she attended St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and joined The Woman's Club. Bunny found joy in needlepointing and spent hours crafting kneelers for St. Stephen's. More recently, she started gardening. She had an affinity for antiques; she loved to decorate and entertain. She wore the hat of hostess well and particularly enjoyed hosting supper club. Bunny volunteered reading to children in after-care programs. She was a passionate animal lover, with many furry friends who touched her life over the years. She had a big heart when it came to rescuing dogs and could not say "no" when she found one who needed a home. She often said that many people think that she rescued her dogs, but her adored dogs rescued her.
Bunny was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her beloved children, Gentry (Kimber) and Mary Ford; and two dear granddaughters, Saylor Grace and Sweden Camille Williams, all of Tuscaloosa; as well as her brother, John Gentry (Carol) of Richmond and their sons.
There will be a private memorial service held for family and close friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local animal shelter.
