Barbara Gurrieri Obituary

Barbara Ann Gurrieri, 39, (so she says), but those closest to her knew better, passed away December 7, 2005. She was surrounded by family and friends. She will be sorely missed and continuously loved by her daughters, Erika Porter, Gina and Karla Schottleutner; and fiance, Ken Sunseri. She was the most wonderful "Nana" to her grandchildren, Blake, Tyler and Isabella. The best big sister to her brothers, Steven, David and Eric; her sister-in-law, Lisa; and her loving cousin, Rosemarie. Her spirit, beauty and kindness will be missed by all. Please join us to celebrate Barbara's life at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 11. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Virginia Post Polio Organization.

I had the pleasure of working with Barbara when she volunteered to be a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters.Barbara's love of life, enthusiasm, laughter and generosity of spirit were infectious. It seems that she faced life with unwavering resolve, good humor and didn't let physical challenges hold her back. I know she touched the life of her little sister, Summer in a very meaningful way. She spoke with love of her fiance, children and grandchildren. I know she will be sorely missed. All who knew her surely were enriched. I am sorry for your loss.

Barbara and I were not that close, but then when we were together, she made you feel like her best friend. If you had a bad day, she was always good for a hug and even if her day was worse, you would never have known it. She just touched so many people and I am so blessed to have been one of them. I wish you, her family, peace and clarity of memories. Gin

Barbara we miss you greatly

Ken,

I was so sorry to hear about Barbara; my heart goes out to you and her family. She always let us know how much she loved all of you.

Apparently Barbara had Polio; I didn’t know what her condition was, just that she never let it get her down, nor did it keep her from dancing, laughing, having fun and enjoying life, I always admired her for that spirit.

Having lost my husband 2 years ago on December 3, I know what an empty spot she will leave in your lives and how hard Christmas will be this year. Hopefully, knowing that friends have you in their hearts and prayers will help ease the pain.

Barbara was in the Big Brother Big Sister program. I was her Little Sister. My name is Summer. She was the greatest Big Sister that I ever met. I think she is in a better place in Heaven. I will miss her visiting me and playing games and drawing with me. I am sorry you lost your mother. She was like a mother to me. I will miss her.

Although I only knew Barbara for a short time, it was long enough to see that she was a very special person. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends in this time of sorrow.

I recall that one of the recent duties Barbara volunteered for in the Richmond Claims Association was that of Membership Chairman. She recruited, accepted and swore in new members so cheerfully, happily and warmly. I can see St. Peter now at the Pearly Gates offering her the same kind of welcome into the Kingdom of Heaven.

Barb touched the lives of so many. She was my best friend and I loved her dearly.

We had some wonderful times together... the 6 of us, Ken & Barb, Susan & Brent, Tim and me.

We adore her girls and send them and Ken our love and deepest heartfelt sympathy. Our sympathy also goes to her brothers Steven, Eric and David and other family members.

Love, Tim and Nancy
