Barbara Wiltshire Obituary

WILTSHIRE, Barbara Griffin, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 1, 2024. Born in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, on March 6, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Nell Reinken Griffin and Percy Ward Griffin; and the sister of the late David Alan Griffin, Sr. She is survived by her sister, Jane Griffin DeMatteis (Denny); her husband, Richard "Rick" Watkins Wiltshire, Jr.; son, Richard Watkins Wiltshire III (Sarah) and their children, Richard Watkins Wiltshire IV and Miller Elizabeth Wiltshire; son, Andrew Betts Wiltshire (Kelly) and their child, Avery Madison Wiltshire; and daughter, Anne Wiltshire Henry (Jon) and their children, Bailey Wiltshire Henry and Eliza Bell Henry. Barbara, or "B" as her friends called her, "BB" as her grandchildren called her, graduated from Mary Baldwin College and settled in Richmond, Virginia where she met Rick, her husband of 48 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, a quiet leader to them that would smile so brightly whenever any of their names came up. The love that she had for them was unquantifiable. She delivered that love in so many ways, be it through her warm hugs, understanding discipline, attending her children's sporting events near and far, or her holiday baking. Only hours before her passing one of her nurses proclaimed to her "you have a beautiful family" and she quickly responded "and you haven't even seen the grandkids yet!" That was BB, quick-witted and always spreading her love for others. A mother and grandmother first, BB was also an avid bridge player and loved spending time with a bathing suit on, whether during summers at Virginia Beach, or in her front yard, tanning in a beach chair. She will be missed by all of those that were fortunate to meet her over the years. Her loving impact will continue through her friends and those that were so very lucky to call her a mother or grandmother.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church, 4602 Cary Street Road, Richmond, Va. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Collegiate School, 103 N. Mooreland Road, Richmond, Va. 23229 or First Presbyterian Church, 4602 Cary Street Rd., Richmond, Va. 23226. The family would like to thank the caring nurses and doctors at Henrico Doctors' Hospital that made her last hours peaceful.

Loved knowing Barbara.
Her smile and friendly greetings were always there whether we were in our 40s or in our 70s.
May the love of God be with you all.

Rick, I am sorry to hear about Barbara. I fondly remember her "popping" into your office at HBLIC.
My thoughts are with you and your family.
