Benjamin Brockenbrough Obituary

Benjamin Willard Brockenbrough Jr., age 79, departed this life early on August 15, 2005. Born the son of Benjamin Willard Brockenbrough and Kathleen Watkins Brockenbrough in Richmond, Virginia, he is survived by his wife, Harriet Scott Brockenbrough; his sons, Benjamin Willard Brockenbrough III and his wife, Robin Rosenbaum Brockenbrough, Dr. James Scott Brockenbrough and his wife, Dr. Jennifer Shook Brockenbrough, Allan Brockenbrough II and his wife, Paula Burke Brockenbrough, and Thomas Wellford Brockenbrough. He leaves two grandchildren, Eamon and Emily Brockenbrough; and a brother, Henry Watkins Brockenbrough. He was preceded in death by a brother, Allan Brockenbrough. He attended Glen Allen School and Thomas Jefferson High School. After service as an officer in the US Navy in the World War II Pacific theater he received an undergraduate degree at the University of Richmond and a graduate degree at The Ohio State University. Returning to Richmond, he devoted most of his career to serving clients of the insurance firm Gibson, Moore & Sutton, Inc., and after a merger in 1986, at Tabb, Brockenbrough and Ragland, Inc. After retirement, he remained busy with charitable activities and travel. He was a longtime member of St. Thomas's Episcopal Church and the Hanover Rotary Club. He was Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 402 for more than 20 years. A memorial service will be celebrated at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 3602 Hawthorne Ave., in Richmond, Va. on Thursday, August 18, 2005 at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Hungars Episcopal Church in Bridgetown, Virginia on the Eastern Shore. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hanover Habitat For Humanity, 8177 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville, Va. 23111, or the Central Virginia Food Bank, 1415 Rhoadmiller St., Richmond, Va. 23220.

Alan, I want to express how sorry I was to hear of your Dads passing. I know that it has been a very sad and stress filled few months while your Dad has been ill and you have coped remarkably well.
