GILES - Rev. Dr. B. S. A Godly Pastor, Husband, Father, and Friend Remembered. The late Rev. Dr. Bernard Sylvester Giles was called home from labor to reward seven years ago today. He was the pastor of the First Union Baptist Church in Mechanicsville for over 50 years. He was a man of complete commitment and to him religion was not just something preached from the pulpit on Sunday mornings, but it was the reality of day to day living. As his natural birthday approaches, we take time to remember this honorable and respected pastor. He exemplified the traits of a Godly man as set forth in the gospel text. His legacy will live on in the hearts of many because the memory of a well spent life is eternal.
