Betty Morecock Obituary

Betty Jo Collins Morecock

September 2, 1936 - September 29, 2025

Betty Jo Collins Morecock, passed at the age of 89 on September 29, 2025, after suffering a recent fall, and ascended to rejoin her beloved husband, Robert "Bob" H. Morecock, who predeceased her by six and a half years. Betty Jo was a proud engineering graduate from Virginia Tech (one of that institution's very first female engineering graduates). As a recent engineering graduate, she met her husband of 61 years at her first engineering job in the Virginia Department of Transportation's Bridge Division. After her successful engineering career, she turned her talents to residential real estate. She was a licensed agent and broker for over 40 years and owned her own real estate company before her retirement.

Betty Jo was predeceased by her husband, Bob; her parents, Henry and Hazel Collins; and her younger sister, Linda Seckora. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Baganakis; her brother, Henry Collins, Jr.; her three children, Robert Morecock (Marian), Martha Morecock Eddy (Craig), and Steven Morecock (Elizabeth); her six grandchildren, Joseph, Collin, Christiane, Sarah, Alexandra, and Heather; and great-grandson, Eli.

A devout Christian, Betty Jo loved her family and friends. She was an expert seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for her family. In addition, she loved sailing and boating at "the Land," garden club, canasta, the Presbyterian Church, Hokie sports, and traveling with family. Throughout her life, everywhere she went she never met a stranger. Family and friends will greatly miss her wit, spunk, smile, and that special twinkle in her eye.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, October 23, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 24, at River Road Presbyterian Church, 8960 River Road. Interment will follow the service in Hollywood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Virginia Tech's College of Engineering.
