Billy Davis Obituary

DAVIS, The Rev. Billy B., August 20, 1940 to May 12, 2022, 81, of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Richmond, Va., passed away peacefully on May 12, 2022. He joined his wife, Linda; and all his grandparents, parents, sisters, brothers and church families already in heaven. Billy (aka "BillyB") was born at home in Dinwiddie, Va. to Jamayne and Polly Davis. He was raised in Amelia county with his little brother, Whitey; and his sisters, Clara and Dorothy; and older brothers, JB, James and Marvin. He counted Clay Coleman of Amelia as a father figure, brother-in-law and lifelong friend who helped him learn the value of a job done right, a joke well told and love for family.

Billy, Linda and their family served at Rainbow Baptist Church in Rainbow, Texas where the parsonage was a single-wide trailer, then Calvary Baptist Church, Tupelo, Miss and First Baptist Church, Greenville, Miss. In 1978, he was able to move back to his beloved Virginia, serving at First Baptist Church, Hopewell, Va. and later, Derbyshire Baptist Church in Henrico, Va. He served the Richmond Baptist Association and was active in Raceway Ministries and missions to Liberia. Billy was a devoted husband, son, brother, father, uncle, cousin, friend and pastor to more people than we can mention here. He leaves a lifetime of happy memories to his daughter, Susan; son, Barry (Trasi); grandchildren, Hannah Bates (Alex), Conner Davis, Claire Collins, Hannah Collins (Kent), Patrick Gormus; and his great-grandsons, Jackson and Owen Bates and Louie Paul. He is also survived by a beloved extended family, the Conners, Bradleys, Colemans, Collinses, Davises, Enrights, Flemings, Johnsons, Jones, McMillians, Pauls, Phillips, Sheltons, Simons and Tynches, from Amelia to Alabama and beyond. He loved and enjoyed being part of his grandchildren's lives. He cherished time spent with his brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews and he missed them all when he and Linda went to live in Florida under Susan's excellent care.

There will be a celebration of Billy's life at 11 a.m. in the main sanctuary on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Derbyshire Baptist Church, 8800 Derbyshire Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229. There will be a private graveside service later that day in Amelia, Va.
