Wow, what a shock to learn of Brad’s passing. We were fellow DCHS alumni and I had the pleasure of working with him at Honeywell. He was a dear friend and we kept in touch from time to time since we both left Honeywell. His heart was as big as he was and he lived life large as well. I don’t think I ever saw him without a smile. Brads presence filled the room with happiness and I am saddened to know he is gone. Rest in peace my friend. The world is a lesser place without you in it.

WOW I can't believe I'm just finding out Big Brad has passed. My heart is broken. A very kind person who I met at the YMCA. He always greeted me with a smile. One day he heard me singing a gospel song while working out and I shared my health issues. He then start to tell his personal story and kept me motivated. I can't believe he's no longer hear. To the family I pray God gives you strength to endure the days ahead and know that Brad was a great man and always ready to lend a listening ear. I truly am sorry for your loss.

Allen Family
Brad. I never knew his name. I met him at the YMCA in my hometown, Petersburg, Virginia. This big man who just by his stature commanded his space yet truly a “gentle giant”.
He introduced himself by telling me his story that still baffles me. First thing he said to me was— just start, stay focused, keep trying and never up. He said he started working out and had lost weight. He threw up some numbers. So I did what my daddy taught me and I calculated/ran them in my head. Omg to lose weight like that is impressive. I thought hey, this guy was a beast!
I took cycling ♀ classes, lifted weights and walked on the treadmill at level two, above my ability because he was in there. He was struggling with a smile, calling some folks names and yelling to them to keep pushing. He was a natural born encourager of others young, old, black, white, male, female everybody and he did it consistently. Even when he was not there a memory of what he did would flash in my mind and I chose to push myself a little bit more.
I’ll remember Brad and continue to be grateful to him for the encouragement he gave us so freely. He will be missed. Prayers are going up for y’all .

For I know the plans God has for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11. I thank God Brad came into my life with his beliefs, his mission work here and around the world; and his love for God and his family. He was truly a man of God and I'm so grateful to God for knowing Brad. He shared his pictures of their trip to South Africa of Nelson Mandela's prison cell and his so-tall statute - absolutely immaculate and blessed. I will miss you, Brad; but God loves you more. Rest in peace. God's blessings, love, strength and healing to his Beautiful Wife, children, grandchildren and all family members. God loves all of you; I do, too.

Our heartfelt condolences to the entire family, church family and all who have had the pleasure of knowing this "gentle giant". Praying God's strength, comfort and peace today in the days to come. May you be encompassed in God's unfailing love and comforting presence knowing God is with us in all things. Thank you Lord for your peace, your presence, your Word, the Blood of Jesus and the Name of Jesus which covers, cleanses, heals, liberates and keeps us.

I was lucky enough to work for Brad for a couple of years and he was the most kind-hearted person. He dealt with everything with a smile. Any task assigned to him he always put his all into. People were often intimidated by him but he was actually gentle and caring. What a great sense of humor he had too! He would often joke about my 5'0 height by walking past me saying, "Where are you?" It brings comfort to know he will rest eternally with our Lord and Savior. RIP Big Brad.

We knew Brad from the Petersburg YMCA. He would be upstairs working out with my husband Jim and they would start talking. Jim is always getting free t-shirts from the different fairs we attend and Brad would always tease him about that. One day Brad brought Jim a shirt from UNC Wilmington that read, Hawk Yeah! He still wears it today and we will always think of Brad every time. We will miss seeing him at the Y. He was a great guy. Our sincere sympathy to the family and our prayers are with you all.
