Brij Mohan Mago

1935 - 2022

MAGO, Mr. Brij Mohan, of Midlothian, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at the age of 87. After suffering a stroke and months of declining health, Brij died peacefully with his devoted wife, Aasha, by his side.

Brij was born in Rawalpindi, India on February 21, 1935 to Chamman Lal and Vaishno Devi Mago. When Brij was 12, his father was murdered during the partition of India. Brij, his mother, elder brother and younger sister sought refuge with extended family in New Delhi, India, where they relocated. Brij and his family persevered and overcame their tragedy and financial hardships. Brij's elder brother became an accountant, Brij obtained his B.S. in Engineering from Delhi University and Brij and his brother put their sister though medical school.

In 1963, Brij emigrated to the United States where he obtained a Masters in Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and later an MBA from the University of Richmond. Brij married Aasha in 1967 and had three children. One of Brij's proudest moments was being sworn, with his wife, as citizens of the United States in 1976.

Brij worked at Allied Signal for 30 years as a textile engineer and marketing executive. During his tenure at Allied, Brij obtained three patents.

Brij was a founding member and long-serving Treasurer of the Hindu Center of Virginia. Over the past 40 years, Brij devoted his time and considerable efforts to the Hindu Center, India Festival and the success of the Indian community in Virginia.

Brij's devotion to the community was surpassed only by his love for his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by his wife, Aasha; his children, Renu (Mark), Vijay (Sydney) and Rita (James); grandchildren, Andrew, Benjamin, Homura, William, Thomas and Henry; and his sister and brother-in-law, Sheel and Dwij Varma; as well as many nephews and nieces.

A memorial in Brij's honor will be held at the Hindu Center of Virginia on Sunday, July 10, 2022, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. All are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Hindu Center or a charity of your choice.
