Carl Perkins Obituary

PERKINS, Carl Levi, 103, peacefully passed away at home on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 74 years, Marian Duke Perkins. He leaves behind two grandsons, Michael Smith (Renea) and Bradford Smith (Chereen) of Richmond, Virginia; two great-grandchildren, Sean and Cora Smith; a sister, Louise Perkins Gibson of Cincinnati, Ohio; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and many friends. Carl was a dedicated educator, veteran and community servant. After graduating from Louisa Training School in Louisa, Virginia, he went on to work in various jobs before joining the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in Europe during WWII and was discharged in 1947. He earned his bachelor's degree in Education from Virginia State College (now University) in 1954 and his master's degree in Education at the University of Virginia in 1971. He served as a teacher and Assistant Principal for Hanover, Ashland, Charlottesville and Louisa County Public Schools before retiring in 1984. After retirement, he continued to serve on the Louisa County School Board, as well as many other boards and committees. A graveside service will take place on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church Cemetery, Bibb Store Road (Rt. 628), Louisa, Virginia 23093.
