Carol Smith Obituary
Carol Marie Barbati Smith, 82, of Richmond, Va., passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones and family.
Carol was born on December 8, 1942, in Boston, Mass. Throughout her life, she served as a dedicated manager and administrator across a variety of fields, with a special passion for higher education. She was known for her leadership, her strong work ethic, and the joy she brought to those around her.
Carol was a devout Catholic who not only lived her faith but also gave her time generously through volunteer work at her local church. She was also an active member of the Red Hat Society, where she formed cherished friendships and always brought a lively spirit to every gathering.
Above all, Carol was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She was full of life, known for her warm heart, her infectious laughter, and her deep love for her family.
Carol is survived by her son, Thomas A. Smith, and daughter-in-law, Karyl A. Smith; her grandchildren, Alex Johnson, Christian Smith, Grace Smith, Shawna Swann, and Gary Holmes III.; her great-grandson, Patrick Johnson; and her best friend, Jimmy L. Farmer. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marvin L. Smith; her son, Todd L. Smith; and her daughter, Tracy L. Holmes.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her family, her friends, and the many others whose lives she touched with kindness, laughter, and love. Online condolences at www.morrissett.com.
