Catherine Lee George

GEORGE, Catherine Lee, 92, of Richmond, formerly of Whitestone, transitioned from this life on Friday, June 14, 2024. Born in Baltimore, MD on January 19, 1932, she was the daughter of Viola Dawson Jenkins and Ashby Jenkins, the youngest of seven children, Robert, Jack, Carie, Higgy, Ashby, Jr. and Anna, whom she loved very much. She moved to the Northern Neck during her high school years, where she attended Wicomico High School and found herself captain of the girls' basketball team and homecoming princess. She had a loving marriage to Garnett George for 67 years, and was the proud mother to her sons, Arnold and his wife, Bonnie and Buddy and his wife, Karen; and grandmother to Holly, Chip (Sami), Merry (Matt); and great-grandmother to Finley, Leon and Alexander. Her greatest pleasure was serving her family and did that with exceeding joy. Catherine, Garnett and the boys moved from the Northern Neck to Richmond in 1965 as her husband established the Hesco Company. She served her family as a homemaker, always providing a scrumptious evening meal. Her home, both inside and out, was like a botanical garden. The memory of her sense of humor and uncontrollable laughter at times will never be forgotten. She was a role model for the willingness to listen to and support her family throughout the years. A woman of faith, she encouraged her sons to watch with her the Billy Graham Crusades on television, with the hope that the words expressed would give guidance to their lives. Her love and prayers led her sons to a deep walk with God. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and six siblings.

The celebration of her life will be private. Her family wishes to thank everyone for their encouraging words and prayers during the sunset years of her life. Special thanks to all who provided care for Catherine during her last few years.
