Charles Bey Obituary

BEY, Mr. Charles C., Jr., "Charlie," 81, of Ellicott City, Md., departed this life on September 29, 2021. He was a graduate of Armstrong High School in Richmond, Va. and Hampton Institute (University) in Hampton, Va. He was a scholar, an outstanding athlete and a gentleman. He was among the first African-American recruits nationwide for a Medical Service Representative position with A.H. Robins, Co. He retired in 1995 from a Senior Account Manager position with A.H. Robins, Co. Charlie was a long-time member of the Islamic Society of Baltimore, Md. A private family funeral and interment took place on October 2, 2021, officiated by the Diyanet Center of America, Lanham, Md. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Alice Hines Bey; his parents, Charles C. Bey Sr. and Maria Drake Bey; and in-laws, Louvenia Johnson Smyre, Joseph Smyre and Frank Hines Sr. He is survived and loved by daughters, Charlene Proctor (Martin), Felia Scott (Norman, deceased) and Myra Byrom; sons, Michael Manning (Juanita) and Brian Bey (Joel); four granddaughters, two grandsons, eight great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons. He is also survived by his sister, Marian Gordon (John, deceased); brother, William Bey Sr. (Shirley); brothers-in-law, Frank Hines Jr. (Joyce) and Kevin West; and a host of relatives and friends.
