Charles Bridges Obituary

Charles Macgill Bridges

December 29, 2024

Charles Macgill Bridges III of Doswell was born on Nov. 22, 1948 and died on Dec. 29, 2024. Charles was the son of Charles Macgill Bridges Jr. and Mary Luck Bridges. He grew up in Ashland and always considered Ashland home. He is survived by his wife, MaryBeth Bridges; daughters Coralee Vogel (Jarod), Allison Larkin (Todd) and Amanda Read; step sons Stephen Bartlow (Kathryn) and John Bartlow (Dawn) ; grandsons, Reid, Tanner and Dylan ; sister Elizabeth Tharrington and nephews Tabb Tharrington (Anna) and Clay Tharrington (Erica) ; and former wife Jean Bridges. He also leaves behind his Luck cousins and his Stiles cousins.

Charles attended Randolph Macon Academy and Benedictine High school and was on the football teams at both schools. He also attended Ferrum College and VCU. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired after a career in law enforcement.

An avid gardener, he was particularly proud of a tomato plant that grew to be 15 feet tall. He had an affinity for classic cars and antique tractors. He thoroughly enjoyed watching football on T.V. or in person. And he knew everything there is to know about the game and loved to share his knowledge.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Hunton Baptist Church, 11660 Greenwood Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23059. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
