Charles Cloe Obituary
February 8, 1941 - December 17, 2025
Charles Wesley Cloe III, 84, of Richmond, VA went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Frances Cloe. A Richmond native, Charlie graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and was a University of Richmond alumnus, Class of 1964. A Naval veteran, Charlie served on the USS Canberra in the Vietnam War, participating in four combat cruises and receiving the Bronze Star. Charlie's professional life consisted largely of officiating multiple sports (HS and College Football, Basketball, Baseball/Softball) and organizing, teaching, scheduling and supervising others in the field. In April 2021, he was inducted into the Virginia High School League Hall of Fame, being only the third official in any sport to receive this honor.
Survivors include his brother, Lonnie Woodward Cloe, (Janice); sister, Elizabeth Cloe Wade (Michael); nephews, Kevin Cloe (Martha and their children Connor and Charlotte), Timothy Cloe, and S. Carlton Wade III (Amanda and their children Naomi, Shiloh and S. Carlton IV).
A celebration of Charlie's life will be held on Friday January 9, 2026, at 11 a.m. with a viewing starting at 10 a.m. at Bliley's Funeral Home 3801 Augusta Avenue Richmond, VA 23230. Interment to follow the service at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Avenue, Henrico, VA.
Charlie was loved by everyone who knew him and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Charlie's name to the Richmond SPCA or charity of your choice.

I met Charlie when he refereed my high school basketball games,then we became friends after high school.Charlie was one of the few officials that I thought was good at it.He will truly be missed.
