Charles Simon Sarbaugh
died on July 23, 2024. He was born in Hanover, PA on January 4, 1931 to the late Harry C. and Mary E. Walter Sarbaugh, the third of four children. He was predeceased by his brothers, H. Walter and William E. Sarbaugh and sister, Elaine S. Passeggiato. He was also preceded in death by his partner, confidant, friend, and beloved wife of 57 years, Margaret Lois Jensen, in 2007. He is survived by his loving and caring daughter, Karen Elaine Sarbaugh of North Chesterfield VA. Mr. Sarbaugh served for several years in the U. S. Army and was a combat veteran of the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Amvets, and VFW, all of the posts in Hanover, PA. Mr. Sarbaugh was an active member of the Masonic Fraternity for 47 years, having been Worshipful Master of five Lodges, particularly his Mother Lodge, Metropolitan No. 11 in 1985. He was the secretary of that Lodge for over 32 years and was the secretary of five other Lodges over the years. He was Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 15th Masonic District in 1989. He was the holder of 5 Life Memberships in Perpetuity and was honored by 5 other Lodges that elected him to Honorary Membership. Mr. Sarbaugh was an active member of the Richmond Bodies of the Scottish Rite and was honored by being awarded the 33rd Degree, Inspector General Honorary in 2001 by those bodies. He was also very active in many of the appendant organizations of the York Rite of Freemasonry and was honored by being awarded the Order of the Purple Cross. He was further honored by the Order of DeMolay by being invested with a Legion of Honor Membership and by the Order of Rainbow for Girls who presented him with the Cross of Colors. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Sitter and Barfoot Veterans Care Center for the excellent care they provided for Mr. Sarbaugh over the past two years.
Mr. Sarbaugh will be interred alongside his beloved wife in their hometown, Hanover, PA. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Childhood Language Center, 4202 Hermitage Road, Richmond, VA 23227.
