Charlotte Briere Obituary

Charlotte Anne Briere

Charlotte Anne Briere, 90 of Mechanicsville, Virginia, ended her earthly journey on July 2nd, 2025, entering her eternal home in the presence of her Savior. She was born to Curtis and Edith Sutphin in Richmond, Virginia on March 31st, 1935, and was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Leo J. Briere, Jr., as well as her two oldest sons, Clifford Alan and Michael Jerome, and brother Curtis. She is survived by her children Becky Bracey (Mitch), Barry Briere (Debbie), William Briere and Sharon Filegar (David) and her sister, Janice Maybee. She was loved dearly by her 19 grandchildren and 16, (soon to be 17) great grandchildren, each for whom she held a special place in her heart.

Charlotte married Leo in September of 1949, having met her sailor while he was on leave in Richmond. Together they built a home for their six children and lived a life of contentment. She was a homemaker but was much more to those who knew her. Never having worked outside the home, she was still most certainly a provider for her family. She was an avid cook, gardener, babysitter, seamstress, advisor, confidant, storyteller, and prayer warrior. Her sharp wit kept those around her amused and provided many memories that will be cherished. Despite all her other contributions, her most significant role in life was the one where she led her children to know the Lord. Her own faith and trust in God were the foundation on which she built her life and are her legacy. Charlotte was a lifelong member of Fairmount Christian Church, serving in many ministries over the years. She was a member of the Pastors Aid Society, prepared meals for Freedom House, and enjoyed her time as a member of the Morning Circle, serving as president for many years.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Road, Mechanicsville, Virginia. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12 at 12 p.m. with visitation an hour prior, at Fairmount Christian Church, 6502 Creighton Road, Mechanicsville, Virginia. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/) or Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (https://giving.billygraham.org/honor-memorial/).
