Concetta "Elda" Chi

CHI, Concetta "Elda", passed away peacefully on December 13, 2022, in her home in Richmond, Virginia, at age 89. Born and raised in Torino, Italy, Concetta moved to London, England at age 25 to work as a seamstress for the theater district. There, she met Joseph Chi, whom she married. After her husband completed his doctorate in England, they soon moved to the suburbs of Washington, D.C. in 1966, where they raised two daughters, Maria and Angela. Concetta loved to travel and spoke both Italian and English fluently. In her lifetime, she had visited Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Ireland, Denmark, China, Singapore, Israel, Greece, Panama, Brazil and many other countries. She lived in Melbourne, Florida for almost 20 years and was active in the rosary group at the local Catholic Church, St. John the Evangelist, where she made over 33,000 rosaries for overseas missions. Concetta had a "green thumb" and kept beautiful gardens at her home. She is survived by her sister, Angela Stefano of Melbourne, Fla.; her daughters, Maria J. Iuorno, M.D. of Richmond, Va. and Angela C. Chi, DMD of El Paso, Texas; and her son-in-law, Frank P. Iuorno Jr, DDS of Richmond, Va. She was preceded in death by Dr. Joseph S.W. Chi. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Julianna M. Iuorno, Jacquelyn N. Iuorno and Justin Gangarosa. Her funeral will be held at St. Michael's the Archangel Catholic Church in Glen Allen, Va., at noon, December 28, 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Franciscan Mission in Waterford, Wisconsin.
