Craig Harris Obituary

Craig Carter Harris

April 2, 1945 - May 8, 2025

Craig Carter Harris passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Mac Blanchard Harris, his parents, Lottie and Gray Harris, and son, Carter McDowell Harris. He is survived by his daughter, Kelly Harris Hemmeline and her husband, Steven; son, Sam Carter Harris and his wife, Sarah; four grandchildren, Evan, Max, and Molly Harris and Duke Hemmeline; and sister, Judy Turbeville and her husband, Nathan. Craig was born in Washington, D.C, raised in Richmond, Virginia, and graduated from John Marshall High School. He was a proud Wasp, graduating from Emory & Henry College in 1967, and later from the University of Richmond, T.C. Williams School of Law in 1971. Craig practiced law in Richmond for 40 years, serving with integrity and dedication. He was a founding member of the Brandermill Church, a mentor in Big Brothers Big Sisters, and a long-time Rotary Club member who embodied the organization's ideal of "Service Above Self" throughout his life. As a husband, father, grandpop, brother, friend, and lawyer, he was known for his quick sense of humor, genuine kindness, humility, and commitment to his community. His love for his family was paramount throughout his life, most poignantly demonstrated by his resilient dedication to his wife in their final years together. A memorial service celebrating Craig's life will be held on Monday, June 2nd at 2 p.m. at The Brandermill Church, located at 4500 Millridge Parkway, Midlothian VA 23112.
