Daniel Brisbane Obituary

Daniel Patrick Brisbane

May 7, 1951 - May 1, 2025

Danny Brisbane, a thoughtful, creative, kind, funny and all-around beautiful soul, passed away on May 1st, 2025.

Danny's life was full of tremendous joy, as he lived it in ways that inspired those around him to laugh more, worry less, and pursue the things that made them happy. For Danny, his happiness was all about ensuring the happiness of those he loved. Throughout his life, he served others - quite literally, with great food he cooked or drinks he poured, but also more profoundly through his presence and generosity.

A graduate of VCU's Sculpture Department, he was captivated by art and music, both of which colored his remarkable life. He was also a founding member of 1708, a cooperative contemporary gallery - the first of its kind in the area.

Danny loved boating on the Potomac River, traveling in Europe, fishing trips, beach vacations, nature, history, spending time with friends, and dancing in the kitchen. But above all else, he treasured and was so incredibly proud of his family: his wife, Terry, his daughter, Natalie, his son-in-law, David, his granddaughters, Romy and Summer, and his mother, Dinah. Danny is preceded in death by his brother, Steven W. Brisbane (surviving partner, Vicki) and his father, Austin F. Brisbane, Jr.

Danny was big on creating fun traditions, which we'll continue to cherish and honor. He was exceptionally cool, and we will miss his storytelling, his smile, his encouragement, his spontaneity, late nights spent laughing together, and the way he made us all feel - hopeful, at ease, and fully celebrated for just who we are.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 18th at 3:00 p.m. in the Marble Hall of the VMFA, where Danny enjoyed a fulfilling 40-year career, working to archivally conserve and professionally present works of art in the collection.
