Daniel L. Bylsma

1944 - 2024

Dan Bylsma, 79, of Myrtle Beach, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2024. Dan's love for life, willingness to help others, and commitment to family were an inspiration to everyone who met him.

Dan graduated from Purdue University in 1967 with a degree in Engineering. He had always been fascinated with the construction, and never passed a construction site without stopping and making sure they were completing the job properly. He was very organized, meticulous with details, and was never seen without his signature yellow legal pad.

In 1983, Dan married the love of his life, Joyce, and they began their very special journey together. After they both retired from Philip Morris USA in 1998, they spent many years enjoying their boat, family, and traveling. After many trips to Myrtle Beach, they decided to make it their home.

He loved fixing or building things, gardening, playing golf, coin collecting, traveling, and spending time with his grandkids.

Dan is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Joyce Bylsma; sister, Joyce Oland of Lafayette, IN; children Jeff Bylsma and wife Diem of Chesterfield, VA; Janet McMillan and husband Curtis of Chesterfield, VA; Shawn Christian and wife Cyndi of Wilmington, NC; and Jim Bylsma of Indianapolis, IN; and five grandchildren, Nicholas Bylsma, Tyler Bylsma, Kaitlyn McMillan, Taylor McMillan, and Mary Anna McMillan.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bob & Katherine Bylsma, and brothers Ed Bylsma and Bill Bylsma.

There will be a small ceremony in Myrtle Beach, as well as a Celebration of Life at Ironbridge Church in Chesterfield, Virginia on February 17, 2024.
