Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory on Feb. 4, 2026.
Robert W. Elkins, age 53, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, February 3, 2026, in his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Robert was born on December 19, 1972, in
Rolling Prairie, Indiana, to Jeffery and Bobette (Haverstock) Elkins.
Robert married Danita (Wilda) Elkins on October 6, 2001, at Trinity Church in South Bend, Indiana.
He was a 1991 graduate of New Prairie High School and a 1996 graduate of Purdue University, where he obtained a degree in history and creative writing. He worked as an auditor for Amtivo, formerly known as ASR. Robert found purpose and community through his work, forming meaningful bonds with coworkers and business partners through his dedication, leadership, and sacrifice, even in his final weeks. Rob was Christian who held his faith in the highest value and found his strength in the Lord. His favorite verse was Ephesians 6:11, "Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil." His joy was found in playing Dungeons and Dragons with his closest friends, which allowed him to tell stories and share his creative mind with those around him. He found peace in small moments with nature, whether he was camping, driving, or sitting in his lawn chair smoking a cigar and soaking in the sun. He felt most loved in moments he shared with family, especially at Christmas time, and took great pride in his nieces, nephews, and children. Rob hoped most to be remembered in the moments when the sun shines through the clouds on late summer evenings and in the sounds of the wind as a much-anticipated storm rolls in. He will be remembered for his advice, his humor, and his strength.
Rob is survived by his wife, Danita; his daughters, Mariah (Codee) Bird, Cora (Daniel), and his son, Liam; his siblings, Dale (Sam) Elkins, Tammy (Karl) Dorr, Crissy (Don) Blint, and Shawn Elkins; his dear nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeffery and Bobette (Haverstock) Elkins, who welcomed him home.
Finally, The Party of Insufferable Fellows: Jason, John, Josh, Samuel, Ron, and Sean.
