Daniel Showers Obituary

SHOWERS, Daniel Clark, 69, of Midlothian, Va., passed away on January 18, 2023, surrounded by loved ones, from complications of leukemia. Dan was a loving and beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He was a compassionate, generous, thoughtful, kind and gentle soul.

Dan was born to John Walter Showers and Mary Lee Riddle Showers on March 28, 1953, in Olean, N.Y. He is survived by his wife, Michele Weeks; their twin daughters, Elise Helena Showers and Madeleine Lucia Showers (12), all of Midlothian, Va.; his mother-in-law, Claire Weeks; his siblings, Sandy Byrum Smith (Bob), Johnna Lee Showers (Bruce Cruser), Fred Showers (Kathy), Mimi Showers Melvin (Mark) and D-Jo Showers Emmel (Bob). He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ann Quaiff Byrum; numerous nieces and nephews and by cherished friends.

Dan was predeceased by his father and mother; his stepmother, Dixie Harrell Byrum Showers; his brother-in-law, Winslow Melvin; his brother, Wayne Byrum; and his father-in-law, Edmund Weeks.

Dan was an Eagle Scout who loved birdwatching and being in nature. While a student at the College of William and Mary, Dan began working in the food and beverage industry. He continued that work in the early years of his career, before working in information technology. Ultimately, he held sales executive positions at IBM and, most recently, Micro Strategies.

Dan lived with keen interest, enthusiasm and passion for life. He was an accomplished black and white film photographer, poet, tennis player and lover of jazz. Dan was defined by a love of nature and the preservation of the environment.

To know Dan, and to be in his company, was to know that you were sure to enjoy the best of all that he was, while enjoying his exceptional cooking, all while toasting the day with an amazing glass of wine. We take comfort knowing that somewhere he is shucking oysters and popping champagne. Save some for us, Dan.

Dan's greatest joy in his life was his wife and daughters. Michele and the girls were, for Dan, an amazing gift that came late in his life and brought him more joy than he ever could have imagined. His beautiful daughters brought him a love he didn't know possible.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or The Nature Conservancy. For memories of Dan, visit https://everloved.com/life-of/daniel-showers.

Dear Family, I am so very sorry to learn of Danny's passing. Although we lost touch after high school, I have many fond memories of attending St. John's Episcopal Church with Danny and his family. May the grace of God surround you all during this sad and difficult time, and know that you have my deepest sympathy.
