David Armistead Obituary

David Lee Armistead

October 23, 1933 - May 20, 2025

David Lee Armistead, aged 91, passed on May 20, 2025, in Richmond, Va.

David was born in Richmond in 1933 to Walter and Emma Armistead and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1954. In 1958, he married Shirley Green, his high-school sweetheart. They were married for 65 years until her passing in 2023.

David and Shirley were lifetime members of Fairmount Christian Church in Mechanicsville, where for 40 years, David served as an elder and in a male quartet. David loved God and had a ready smile for all he met.

After his retirement as President of Mailing Services, in 1991 David founded Haiti Outreach Ministries, which now does church planting, education, health care, hunger relief, and clean water in the poorest slum in Haiti. David also founded Heart Ministries, which directs funds to missionary work throughout the world.

David is survived by his two sons, Brent (Bonnie) and Scott (JoAnn), who serve or have served as missionaries in Asia, and by six grandchildren, Jared (Elizabeth), Bethany (Brunno), Noah (Sarah), Seth (Noomi), Anna Joy and David Lyle.

Visitation is on Friday, May 30, at 2 to 5 p.m. A Memorial Service is on Saturday, May 31, at 11 a.m., with a reception at 12:30 p.m. Both events are at Fairmount Christian Church in Mechanicsville.

Scott, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your father. I am so glad I had the privilege of knowing your Mom and Dad and your family. I have missed you and your family coming to sing and play the piano for us here at MAHOVA. I pray that God our Father will comfort you during this time of grief.

We met David and Shirley when we moved to MASONIC HOME OF VA. They had us to their cottage for fun and music. We shared meals with them and enjoyed their company so much. We will miss them but know they are happy to be reunited.
