Dora Orlynn Reedy Bowen

1926 - 2022

BOWEN, Dora Orlynn Reedy, age 95, born October 17, 1926 of Chesterfield, Va., passed away peacefully at St. Francis Hospital on January 2, 2022. She was born in Aberdeen, Miss. and grew up on a dairy farm. She was the daughter of Mary Nelly Pope Reedy and William Reedy. She was a graduate of Aberdeen High School and previously a long-time resident of Aberdeen, Miss. She retired from Burris Manufacturing in Prairie, Miss. Dora volunteered at Personal Place in Aberdeen, Miss.

Dora loved playing rummy with her family, going with them to casinos to play slot machines, reading, shopping and jewelry. She travelled frequently, including Japan, Canada, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Branson and California, often in the company of her best friend, Vivian Benefiel and other family members. We will continue to have fond memories of those trips and our times together.

Dora was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, John C. Bowen Sr.; her son, John C. Bowen Jr.; and her brother, Buddy Reedy. She will be lovingly remembered and is survived by her daughter, Judy Blanchard, Baton Rouge, La.; and her grandchildren, John Edward Bowen (Regina), Chesterfield, Va., Kandy Ringquist (Paul Petach), Chesterfield, Va., Christie Kirkpatrick (John), Aberdeen, Miss., Julie Denton (Harold), Sumpter, S.C., Kenny Blanchard (Lacie), Baton Rouge, La.; and great-grandchildren, Blake Bowen, Jake Kirkpatrick, Jon Ringquist, Bryson Bowen, Madison Kirkpatrick, Kayla Bowen, Chase Denton, Cole Denton, Anna Marie Lambert; and extended family, Layla Mae Gele, Trey Gele and Trevion Armstrong.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Aberdeen, Miss.
