Doris Jessie Obituary

JESSIE, Doris Carter, passed peacefully in slumber on February 15, 2021. Born March 20, 1947, she was one of 11 children to John and Laura Mae Carter of King and Queen County. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Jessie; and longtime partner, Everett Adams, both of whom she loved dearly; and survived by her son, "J.B." The last years of her life had been difficult with loss and health, but she spent recent months in the care of her son, a host of family and friends and "hadn't been this happy in years." There was never a stranger to her and she truly was our sunshine, may her memory be just that when skies are grey. A graveside service will be held at Shepherd's United Methodist Church, 163 Fleets Mill Rd., St. Stephens Church, Va. 23148 on February 20, 2021, at 12 noon. In lieu flowers, her son asks that you share kindness with someone in need and tell those you love just that. In her memory, donations may be made to Let's Go Services and Emmaus Baptist Church. B. W. White Funeral Home - Aylett Chapel is assisting the family.

I picked up Mrs. Jessie the day she was released from the hospital after foot surgery, at the dialysis center. She and I grew close as I often picked her up and took her home. Sweet and kindly...I will miss our conversations. She told me often how she was grateful for Let's Go Services being there for her and we were blessed for knowing this lovely ray of "sunshine". My heart hurts for the suffering she endured...but now she is restored and with the Lord. May God bless JB and those who knew and loved Doris. She will be missed.

So very sorry for your loss. We grew up and went to school with the Carters and they were an awesome family. Always stuck together and took care of one another . Good people and it sounds like you made her happy in her last days. God bless all of you in this time of loss!
