Dorothy Herndon Obituary

Dorothy Jean Herndon, 84, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, in Goochland, Virginia.
Born on May 14, 1941, Jean was a devoted member of Bethel UMC. For over a decade, she volunteered with Centerville Company #3 Rescue Squad. Jean had a passion for crocheting, making hundreds of prayer shawls, lap blankets, and baby afghans, each bringing comfort and joy to those who received them.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack; son Howard; parents, Howard and Adele Johnson; and brother Charles "Bubba" Johnson. She is survived by daughters, Deborah Hanshew and Dena Martin (Russ); sons Billy (Cindy) and Bobby (Stacey); nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; sisters Brenda McCready and Joyce Moore; sister-in-law JoAnn Johnson; several nieces and nephews, including one devoted, Ginger Lowery.
A memorial service will be held at Ragland Memorial Baptist Church, 2838 Sandy Hook Road, Goochland, VA 23063 on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or Goochland Cares.
The family would like to thank the team at ACG Hospice, especially Jake, Elizabeth and Cameron for all of their wonderful care.

My condolences to the family, she had a smile that lit up a room and a sense of humor, she also worked at Goochland High School with my mom Pearl Parrish which passed away last year June 23rd 2024 of dementia and alzheimers may they RIP let them know that we will miss him and love them and always keep their memories in your heart. They were both hard workers and compassionate to everything they did in their loving hands. God Bless Them Both. They will be greatly missed. Your Forever Friend, Sherry Lane

We are so sorry for you alls loss one great soul she was our famil has been so blessed to have know Jean and Jack they were great great friend we so appreciate that we got to know them both and to love them. Jean was a big part of my children years at Randolph. She was such a good lady and will be missed by many especially my family. I will miss her especially seeing her pretty smile in church. God Bless all of you and be with you all at this time and the days ahead. Prayers and Love to you all.
