Edna Moore McCormick Pickral

Edna Pickral Obituary

Edna Moore McCormick Pickral of Lexington, was born January 26, 1923 in Winchester, Mass., the second born daughter of Anna Moore McCormick and James Cabot McCormick. She spent her childhood in Winchester, Mass., and in 1944, graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Smith College, where she majored in Latin and Greek studies. In March 1945, she married George Monroe Pickral Jr., and moved to Lexington, Va. For 37 years, she was the devoted wife of Col. Pickral, who was a chemistry professor at Virginia Military Institute. Edna was very active in life in Lexington. She was a census taker and served on the local electoral board. For many years, she was a member of the Ignorance Club and was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, elder and finally as the official greeter. Through the years, she was active with the Girl Scouts and United Way, and for a time, taught Latin in the Lexington Middle School. She is survived by her sister, Annette M. McCormick of Baton Rouge, La.; and her five children, James C. Pickral of Palmyra, Va., Thomas M. Pickral of Metairie, La., Robert M. Pickral of Lexington, Va., Janet P. Moncure of Richmond, Va., and Elizabeth P. Molino of Timonium, Md. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren. Interment will be at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery on Wednesday, December 17, at 3 p.m. with a memorial service to follow immediately at the Lexington Presbyterian Church. A reception will be held there after in Dunlap Auditorium. Memorials may be made to the Lexington Presbyterian Church Organ Fund. Arrangements by Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington, Va.
