Edward Dowdye Obituary

DOWDYE, Dr. Edward H. Jr., went home to be with the Lord on December 31, 2020, after a hard-fought battle with cancer at the age of 77. He was born on November 13, 1943, in Washington, D.C. He will join his parents, Dr. Edward Henry Dowdye Sr., a veterinarian; and Mrs. Rachelle Rue Richardson, a school principal; in Heaven. He was a devoted father and a brilliant scientist and will be greatly missed by his family as well as the science community. He leaves behind two children he loved dearly, Melanee Diane Dowdye and Erik Sebastian Dowdye (Chaka Tanya); five grandchildren, Jaylen Deshaun Dowdye, Loren Monet Gustus, Ayshawn Whitaker, Shammond Whitaker and Shaheim Whitaker; nephew, Allyn Jerrod Walker; niece, Rhoni Jae Walker; and a host of other loving relatives in Goldsboro, N.C., Arizona and California. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where viewing will take place Friday, January 8, 2021, from 2 to 8 p.m, and where services will be held Saturday, at 1 p.m.
