Edward McKeown Obituary

Edward Copley McKeown, known to most as Eddie, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2026. He was 75.

Eddie is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Meredith; daughter, Katharine Bond; brother, Richard; and grandchildren, Connor (Paris), Parker, Morgan, and Brady. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and countless friends he considered family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Dwight McKeown, and his brother, Dwight.

A native of Arlington, Virginia, Eddie graduated from Washington-Lee High School (now Washington-Liberty), where he was a standout on the basketball court. He went on to play at St. Andrews University before transferring to the University of Virginia, where he graduated from the McIntire School of Commerce. It was in Charlottesville that he met and married the love of his life, Meredith.

Eddie taught math at Greene County High School, where he also coached basketball, before beginning his career with Altria. In his later years, he and Meredith moved to be closer to their grandchildren, and he spent his final years in Glen Allen, Virginia.

Eddie was a regular at Random Row Restaurant and Fridays After Five, and he marked every special occasion with a prime rib dinner at the Aberdeen Barn. A decades-long UVA season ticket holder, he loved hosting UVA football tailgates. He also loved fishing and good conversation. Eddie never met a stranger. He had a rare gift for building friendships that lasted. Over the years, those friendships grew to include parents, children, and grandchildren, creating bonds that crossed generations. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held at Duncan Memorial Church in Ashland, Virginia, on March 21 at 1:00 p.m. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends at The Clubhouse at Chickahominy Falls, 10447 Woodside Farms Drive in Glen Allen, where, in accordance with his wishes, they will celebrate his life in true Eddie style, with good music, good food, great friends, and the NCAA basketball tournament.
