Edward Poole Obituary

Edward E. Poole Jr.

March 21, 1942 - August 23, 2025

Edward E. Poole Jr., age 83, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025. He was born on March 21, 1942, in Emporia, VA. He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn Poole, and his parents, Edward Eppes Poole Sr. and Ruby Poole. He is survived by his son, Trip Poole; grandson, Eppes Poole; sister, Willie Anna (Tom) Denton; sister-in-law, Barbara (Bob) Hunt; nieces, Rebecca (Matt) Viverito, Laura (Jason) Smith, Suzanne (Mike) Pfeifer; nephew, Bryan Hunt; and special cousins, Ruth Ann Wray and Theresa Fish. The family would like to thank the staff of Reminiscence care at Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe.

Ed Poole was a beloved teacher and coach who served as a positive role model and mentor to countless students and athletes. Kids from elementary school to college gravitated towards him because of his kind, fair nature. No one was a stranger to Ed, and he was a coach for all the right reasons. He shaped lives and played a large role in our community. He will be greatly missed.

Later in retirement, Ed loved nothing more than spending time with his grandson. The two would go fishing together weekly. On the weekends, you could find him at Eppes' baseball games. Coach Poole seldom missed a game.

A visitation for Edward will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Woody, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229. A graveside service will occur Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 11 to 11:40 a.m. at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Rd, Petersburg, VA, 23805.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edward's memory to Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad, 1101 Horsepen Rd., Richmond, VA, 23229 or Tuckahoerescue.org/donate/ or to The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Ave., 5th Floor, Norwalk, Conn. 06851 or visit www.themmrf.org/ donate-to-mmrf/.

Ed Poole was one of my favorite coaches. "Joke time" in the weight room always had the team in stitches! Whenever I saw him out after retirement he always asked how I was doing and if I stay in touch with my teammates.
