Edward Robertson Obituary

ROBERTSON, JR., Edward Dunbar, Edward Dunbar Robertson Jr., age 82, of Indian Harbour Beach, FL (formerly of Richmond, VA), passed away at home with family by his side on March 24, 2024, after a valiant fight with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Heidi Brandt Robertson; their children Edward Dunbar "Josh" Robertson, III, (Millicent) and Megan Robertson Coyner (William); grandchildren George Edward Robertson, Henry James Robertson, and Francis Viele "V" Lowden, V; his sister Meredith Robertson Heinecke, of Coronado, CA; and many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ned was born on January 13, 1942, in New London, CT, to Margaret Clarke and Edward Dunbar Robertson, LCDR, USN. Ned grew up in Coronado, CA, and graduated from Coronado High School in 1959. He obtained a B.S. in Physics Engineering from Washington & Lee University, where he was in the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity; a B.S.E.E. in Computer Design from Rensselaer Polytechnic University; and an MBA from The University of Virginia.

Ned began his career in Richmond as a Systems Engineer for IBM, then departed for Stuttgart, Germany, to complete his Army ROTC obligation, and achieved the rank of Captain. Returning to Richmond in 1970, Ned joined The Computer Company, ultimately serving as a Senior Vice President and CFO. Ned then started his own computer consultancy, The Dunbar Group. Ned enjoyed cooking, bulldogs, and sailing the Chesapeake Bay on the family sailboat Skimmer.

After he retired in 2006, Ned and Heidi moved to Florida, where he discovered a passion for wood turning, creating intricate lamps, ornaments, and bowls. He also volunteered his time and technical expertise, refurbishing computers for public schools and veterans.

A celebration of Ned's life will take place in Richmond later this spring.
