Edwin McNutt Obituary

Edwin Oniel McNutt, 81, of Richmond, died April 24, 2004. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Margaret Ann; two daughters: Donna Payne and husband, Bill, and children, Katie and Kyle; Gloria Howley and husband, Vince, and children, Will and wife, Robin, and son, Boden Kahn, and Amy and husband, David Frazer, and Patrick Howley; a son, Edwin O. McNutt Jr. and wife, Shirley, and children, Michele and husband, Derrick Joseph, and son, Christian Jacobson, and Mickee and husband, Pete Ferguson, and children, Kamryn and Kimberlee; an "unadopted son", Jerry and wife, Joanne Liggan; a sister, Vera Ogletree of Brookings, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews in California and Oregon. Mr. McNutt was born in Portales, New Mexico on April 24, 1923, the 13th of 14 siblings, the child of Andrew J. McNutt and Duskie C. McNutt. He was a veteran of World War II where he served as a pilot in the Eighth Air Force in the European Theater. He was a Past Master of Babcock Masonic Lodge #322 in Highland Springs, Past Potentate of ACCA Temple Shrine, Past President of the VSSE, and president of the Residence Council at Lakewood Manor. He was a member of Scottish Rite Class of 1954, Legion of Honor, R.O.J. #17, and Multi-jurisdictional Grand Jury for 14 years. He was a first-aid instructor for the American Red Cross for 27 years and taught ballroom dancing in the Richmond area for over 30 years. He was a charter member of the Mini Patrol, Security Unit, Country and Western Band, the Greeters Unit, the Highlanders Unit, Cabiri, and the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad. Mr. McNutt retired from the Henrico County Fire Department as deputy chief, Travelers Insurance Company as safety engineer, and TB&R Insurance Agency. Remains rest at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad Street, where the family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. A private entombment will be held on Tuesday and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Lakewood Manor. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 9217, Richmond, Va. 23227.
