Elizabeth Brown Obituary

Elizabeth Robertson "Libby" Brown

July 19, 1944 - September 2, 2025

Elizabeth Robertson Brown "Libby", passed away peacefully in Virginia Beach, on September 2, 2025, surrounded by her husband and close friends. She is survived by her devoted husband, Will Crell; cherished son, Stewart "Stew" H. Brown III; beloved daughter, Ellison Brown Caplice; eight grandchildren; and brother, Stephen Robertson.

An entrepreneur, writer, adventurer, she was born in Brooklyn Navy Hospital, July 19, 1944. Co-founding This End Up Furniture Company in 1974 and Fowl Cay Resort in the Bahamas in 2000, she demonstrated inspirational and exceptional leadership and dedication, earning the respect and admiration of all who had the pleasure of working with her.

The afterword of her terrific book, Making Waves, reveals much of Libby's transmittable spirit: "Pursuing my own individuality was the path to liberation, and I thank good fortune for the heavy weather I had to endure to gain it. I do not wish to die untouched, untried, unspent. I want life to use me up and, when it's over for me, I want to race through the finish line without looking back. Although my love of taking chances didn't always love me, I will rest in my final moments void of regret-I would never risk regretting."

Special thanks to the caregivers at Arden Memory Center. Services are private; in lieu of flowers, donations in Libby's memory can be made to the American Brain Foundation.
