Elmer Taylor Seay Jr.

SEAY, Elmer Taylor Jr., 90, peacefully joined the ancestors on Thursday, January 25, 2024, in Richmond. Born on May 17, 1933, in Richmond, Virginia, Elmer was the second of five children born to Elmer Taylor Sr. and Maria Seay. Elmer graduated from Armstrong High School in 1952. He earn both a Bachelor's degree from Virginia Union University and a Master's degree from Richmond Professional Institute (VCU). Elmer retired from the City of Richmond Social Services Department. In 1962, Elmer and Shirley Hairston exchanged vows on June 30th in Martinsville, Virginia. Throughout his lifetime he served as a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., NAACP, and Richmond Crusade for Voters. Elmer was also one of the Founders of the Richmond Chapter of the National Association of Black Social Workers, Inc. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents Elmer Taylor Sr. and Maria Seay; brothers William Seay and John Seay. Those who cherish his memory are: wife, Shirley H. Seay; daughter, Terri Anderson (Philip); son, Jaye Seay (Jaime); grandchildren, Bevin Brown (Christopher), Drew Anderson, Farron Anderson, Arielle Seay, Noemi Seay, and Brienna Seay; sisters Evelyn Williams and Virginia Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 12, 2024, 6 p.m. at Mimms Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life service will be Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. at First African Baptist Church 2700 Hanes Avenue Richmond, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Educational Department of First African Baptist Church.
