Erin Prillaman Jordan

Apr 5, 1985 - Jun 17, 2024

Erin Mills Prillaman Jordan (39 years old), born on a sunny Good Friday afternoon, April 5, 1985, passed away peacefully at her home in Chesterfield County, Virginia, at 4:56 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving parents, two sisters, brother, and sister-in-law.

Following her diagnosis in November of 2022, Erin's battle with Stage-4 Metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer stands as a lasting testament to her unwavering spirit and strength, smiling and content in every circumstance (Proverbs 31:25). Beneath the skin of this gentle human lived a WARRIOR who finished her race with inspirational courage and will be remembered by all who knew her.

Erin was preceded in death by her grandparents, Marvin T. and Clara T. Mason, of Charlotte, NC; grandparents, Leslie I. and Thelma M. Prillaman, of Roanoke, VA; and uncle, Leslie I. Prillaman Jr., of Virginia Beach, VA.

Erin leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Kyleigh Anne Jordan, age 11; her devoted parents, Walter E. and Patricia (Tricia) M. Prillaman, of Moseley, VA; her supportive siblings, brother, T. Brett Prillaman, and sister-in-law, A. Nichole Bulls Prillaman, of Moseley, VA; sister, Anna E. Prillaman, of Springfield, VA; twin sister, Emily P. Athens, and brother-in-law, Arthur J. Athens (Sr.), of Richmond Hill, GA. Erin also leaves behind cherished nieces and nephews, Taylor A. Athens, Arthur J. Athens (Jr.), Hayden C. Prillaman, Caroline E. Prillaman, and Coleton T. Prillaman; as well as two aunts, an uncle, and many cousins whom she loved very much.

Born and raised in Midlothian, VA, Erin's life was continuously marked by compassion and achievement. Erin was a loving sister whose values of kindness, discipline, and competitiveness rose from her early childhood interactions with her three siblings and from her love of team sports. She was a successful year-round competitive swimmer (for Briarwood / Poseidon) before growing into an elite cross-country standout, as well as an 800-meter regional track champion, under the mentorship of her high school coach, Stan Morgan (Midlothian High School).

After graduating high school in 2004, Erin attended The College William & Mary where she ran cross country and track (lettering all four years), graduating in 2008 with a degree in Kinesiology. Excelling in every race with determination and grace, Erin was a two-time CAA All-Conference runner and contributor to four consecutive CAA Cross Country championships.

It was at William & Mary that Erin's passion for working with children with special needs blossomed. Professionally, Erin pursued her passions at the New England Center for Children (NECC) in Boston, MA, working with children with autism and continuing her education to receive a master's degree in education from Simmons College, where she chose to focus on advanced curriculum for severe special needs children. While at NECC, Erin was selected in 2009 to work abroad in Abu Dhabi, UAE, for 15 months where she helped countless children with autism live fuller lives. During her time there, she enjoyed traveling to Oman, Cyprus, Spain, Egypt, Alexandria, Tunisia, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, and several countries throughout Europe. Upon returning stateside, Erin became a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst and worked in the pivotal role as the county-wide Autism Coordinator in Henrico and then later as a Behavioral Specialist, until her death, in Powhatan, VA.

Erin's infectious laughter and genuine kindness cultivated lifelong friendships across diverse circles and many of Erin's teammates, classmates, and coworkers became lifelong friends. The depth of her love for people was evident in the various groups of close friends Erin cherished throughout her life. Among her closest and most valued were memories made with her boyfriend, Kristian Schott. Their obvious love for each other was joyful, infectious, full of laughter, and inspiring for many to witness.

More than any relationship she held, and beyond her many athletic, academic, and professional achievements, Erin's greatest source of pride and joy was her daughter, Kyleigh. Their bond was unbreakable, their many outdoor adventures together cherished beyond measure, a testament to a mother's complete and transcending love and devotion to her child. Erin said, "I want my child to say, 'My Mom was a strong Mom, and I am who I am because of her strength and dedication.'" Kyleigh, you were all she thought about and focused on in her final days. She wanted nothing more than the best for you, with wishes for a lifetime of happiness, joy, and love. May you grow to be as kind, as strong, as devoted to family, and as close to God as your mother was, may her example and loving memory stay with you always.

Erin Mills Prillaman Jordan will be remembered for her strength, her compassion, her faith, and the profound impact she had on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched, forever inspiring us to live with courage, love deeply, and to cherish every moment that life offers.

The Celebration of Erin's Life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, 3 p.m. at Bon Air Baptist Church, 2531 Buford Road, Richmond, VA 23235.

Erin was a very vibrant spirit and I am glad our paths got to cross. We became friends when she came to my brother´s funeral and then continued to check in to see how I was doing. We continued to keep in touch by Facebook. I watched her journey through her battle and offered encouragement and advice as I had done a similar battle with breast cancer and beat it the year she was diagnosed. I was amazed that she could take a negative situation and turn it positive and use it to spread Gods word and encourage others to fight. She truly was a genuinely great person and I am glad I got to know her.

Anna, Tricia, and Walt,
What a heartbreaking loss. I am just so sad to learn of this. My path may have crossed hers unknowingly at some point in Powhatan, and I'm further sad to learn now it won't in the future as my daughter is school aged this year. The obituary is a beautiful tribute to her.
I always loved your family, and will keep you in my thoughts.

I did not know Erin, but as her obituary states and others have said here, she was a young woman who put a lot of good out into the world in a very short time. May the family and especially her daughter take solace in that. Hers was truly a life well lived.

Tricia and Walt. You and your wonderful family stay in our thoughts and prayers. Erin was an amazing young woman who crammed a lot of living into a short life. She was so unbelievably accomplished and clearly thought of the wellbeing of others instead of herself to the very end. She was lucky to have such supportive siblings and in-laws. We hold her and Kyleigh in our hearts and prayers as well. John and Brenda Vaughan
