Ernest "Ernie" James Southers

Ernest "Ernie" James Southers, 85, of Chesterfield, passed away on December 4, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Beulah Southers; his brothers, Melvin and Garland Southers; and his sister, Trudy Bass.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Marie Southers (Chris Orange) and Anita Bennett (Garrison Bennett); his cherished grandchildren, Taylor Bennett, Laurel Bennett, James Bennett, Madelaine Orange, and Cameron Orange; as well as his nieces and nephew, Lisa Chancellor, Tonya Rudd, Carlton Myers, Debbie Esposito, Becky Pratt, and Cindy Purves. He also leaves behind many family members and countless friends who were touched by his kindness.

After graduating from Manchester High School, Ernie proudly served in the U.S. Army before beginning a long career as a machinist, retiring from DuPont. Known for his energy and sociable nature, Ernie was deeply involved in numerous organisations, including the Masons. He loved golf, fishing, and spending time in his beloved garage-affectionately called "the barn"-where he crafted and repaired wood and metal projects. His workshop was a gathering place for friends who often stopped by to share stories and laughter.

Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where a service will be held Wednesday, December 17 at 12:30 p.m., with family receiving friends beginning at 12 p.m.
