James "Ray" Southers, aka Bubba, age 56, of Miamisburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, at Hospice of Dayton, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 11, 1969, in Hamilton, Ohio, Ray was cherished by all who knew him.
Ray devoted a significant portion of his career to Schneider Electric before falling ill. Ray attended Valley View High School, class of 1987, he carried a personality that was both sarcastic and vibrant, always bringing a bit of drama to everyday life. He was known for his love of classic cars and was an ardent supporter of the Green Bay Packers, proudly sharing his enthusiasm with family and friends.
The memory of Ray will be fondly cherished by his beloved wife of 30 years, Sage (McCloskey) Southers. He is also survived by his children: James Regan Southers (Christa Zornes), Red Southers (Roman), and Brianna Southers (Michael Buckney). His grandchildren, Kenz, Jaxon, Lincoln, and Colsen, brought unmeasurable joy to his life. Ray was a devoted dad and papaw, rarely missing a soccer game, and enjoyed taking his children camping and fishing.
Ray’s siblings—Vonda (Bob) McFarland, Priscilla (Evan) Howell, and Ryan (Kirstie) Barrett—also carry forward his memory, alongside his special friend and sister-in-law, Mescal Powell and special friend and brother-in-law, Jordan McCloskey. He was predeceased by his parents, James Floyd and Lucy (Barrett) Southers, and his brother, Terry Southers.
Family and friends are invited to honor Ray’s life through a visitation on July 18, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Arpp, Root, Carter Funeral Home, located at 29 N. Main Street, Germantown, OH 45327. A funeral service will follow on July 19, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM at My Franklin Church, AKA Franklin Church of God, 704 S River St, Franklin, OH 45005, and will conclude with burial at Fairview Cemetery-Gratis at 12:00 PM.
Ray Southers leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories that will continue to inspire and remind us of the importance of family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.
