Gary Cobb Obituary

COBB, Gary Joe, 85, of Henrico, passed away suddenly January 6, 2021, after battling Parkinson's Disease for many years. He was born December 31, 1935, in Billings, Mo., to James H. Cobb and Lora Holder Cobb. Growing up in the Ozark Mountains, he believed in always treating people with respect and care. He was never going to treat you wrong, always in a spirit of honesty and giving back in love, and as a man of integrity. He was an U.S. Army Veteran, serving a term of duty at Camp Zama, Japan. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathleen St. John; three children, JoAnn C. Mollisee (Sam), Gary Stuart Cobb and Stanford C. Cobb; three granddaughters, Taylor N. Cobb, Summer M. Cobb and Ashley C. Mollisee; two sisters, Meta Shriner of Monett, Mo. and Linda Cutbirth (Tom) of Crane, Mo.; two brothers-in-law, David C. St. John (Patricia) and Joseph N. St. John (Marie); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a very skilled and trained mechanic, enjoying working on autos and diesel engines and teaching classes in Mechanicsville at Rich Technical Institute. Mr. Cobb was a longtime member of Monument Heights Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and working with youths in Missions, always willing to share his faith and love of Jesus with others. A motorcyclist at heart, he loved and enjoyed riding. In 1977, he joined a Christian Motorcycle Ministry and was active for more than 30 years traveling the United States and sharing his faith. He was the force behind founding the BMW Riders of Richmond that grew into an active and large group. He retired from the U.S. Government after working 32 years at Defense General Supply Center. Along with his traveling he enjoyed sports, especially baseball and bowling. He loved watching his sons play little league. He was a country music fan; Marty Robbins was his favorite. His family and friends made his world, where caring, honesty, patience and humbleness led him to always do his best. His love will always be with us; he will be greatly missed. His family is very grateful that he is now happy and free of pain. Wait for me "Babe," I'll be there and we will stroll through heaven together. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 11, at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Rough Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Phenix, Va.

Very sorry for the family's loss. Gary was a great guy in our Moto Guzzi group for many years. He was always willing to share his knowledge in how to maintain and improve the bikes. He was a very talented rider as well. I know the times I rode with him, I couldn't keep up with him! RIP Sir. A life well lived for sure.

Gary was one of the nicest men I have ever met. I met him in 1978 at DSCR and we both loved motorcycles. Gary was always willing to take the time to discuss maintenance on BMW motorcycles with me and I am grateful to have known him. RIP my friend!
