George H. Alvis Jr, 86, of Manakin-Sabot, went home to be with our Lord and Savior October 3, 2024. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Reva Nuckols Alvis;parents, George Sr. and Barnes Alvis; and his brother, Gilliam. He is survived by daughters, Debbie Dunlavey (Donnie), Phyllis Henley (Mert); sons, Dennis Alvis (Betsy), Randy Alvis (Cindy); grandchildren, Jason (Parker), Michael (Harli), Peyton (Ashley) Dunlavey, Erin, Thomas (Rachel), Adam (Maryanne) Henley, Callie Carter
(Scott), Brett, Georgie, Emmy Alvis,Hannah Molnar; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was a charter member of Goochland Co. 3 Fire and Rescue. With a strong farming entrepreneurial spirit he started Alvis Dairy in 1965 with his father, and expanded it throughout his years into multiple dairy and grain operations spanning over several counties. He was a keen business man with an incredible talent for numbers which served him well in his lifelong agricultural career. His daily life personified all things farming. As a prominent member of Goochland County, he will be missed by all who knew him. His passion for farming was bestowed upon his family who will continue his
legacy. The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the caregivers for their kindness and support the last few months.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday October 6 at Bennett's West Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad Street. Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 7 at Goochland Baptist Church, 3 p.m. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Goochland Fire and Rescue Co. 3 and/or Goochland Baptist Church.
